Application
Please, fill out the following and comment to this post with it. If you'd prefer, you can send in your application via e-mail (mods@beyondtherift.com) where the entire process will remain private. Refer to this post for an explanation of what we're looking for. Remember when applying, you have a week from your acceptance to intro within the game.
Please, add the name of your character in the subject line. You can place part #s beside the name in the subject if you'd like but make certain the name is there.
This is for AU applications only. Please check our AU Guidelines before applying.
We will wait two weeks before processing applications in casts that are over the size of ten. In addition, there is now a two week wait between applications for the same mun. You apply for one and get accepted, but then have to wait two weeks to apply for another character.
When you have two active characters in game, you can apply for a cameo character. Information about what kind of characters qualify for cameo status is here.
If you've been on hiatus, please, don't apply until you have returned to full activity (there's a two week wait generally).
Please, direct any questions regarding the application to this post or to the mod e-mail.

Revisions
Specifically, we would like to know how this Bucky has changed/is different from his canon self. How is his relationship with Stevie different than canon Bucky's relationship is with Steve? How does this change things for Bucky? Also, could you give us a writing sample from the canon point where you're taking him from as his personality seems to change drastically and we want to see how you grasp him at that time?
Note: AUs in BTR have to be significantly different from their canon selves to be accepted into the game.
revisions! sorry this took so long, it's tech week for my show :c
As stated, Bucky tends to have a certain dry sense of humor, given to making stupid jokes about things to cut tension and usually to avoid awkward situations. But he's also extremely serious, when he has to be. In certain situations -- mainly, the war, he can put aside the cheerful snarky guy and be absolutely professional. If he considers it necessary to his duty, to the job he's doing, he will do it, no matter how distasteful he'd normally find it. It's why he enlisted and why he'll fight, to do his duty and protect the little guy. This, of course, extends to the people he's working with. He will fight to keep them safe no matter what kind of horrible things are thrown at them, and has -- or had, when he was younger, a bit of a tendency to rush into dangerous situations without exactly thinking about the consequences. He still does, every once in a while, but a bit more wisdom has come with the years and training as winter soldier.
- Relationship with Stevie as opposed to canon
He is somewhat more protective of Stevie -- she's a lady, after all, even if she rarely acts it. He's more used to having a family, really, than being in the orphanage, since Stevie managed to get them both out of there. Stevie is absolutely his sister and his best friend, as well as a kind of weird combination of both mom and dad. As such, he's a bit more apt to recognize her even through his brainwashing as Winter Soldier, just because he's gotten used to her being there, having Stevie to rely on in most everything. (In canon, he vaguely recognizes Steve, at least a little. With this version of Bucky, it'll probably be a bit less vague and more like a niggling feeling of recurring deja-vu.)
He's had to deal with a fair few more fights in his time because of Stevie, mostly because he felt like he had to do something to 'defend her honor'. He knows she can take care of herself, but he is quite adamant in feeling that she shouldn't have to, because she's a lady. He's quite a bit more apt to dive into fights and probably reckless things on Stevie's behalf, even if she disapproves. Bucky's always had a healthy respect for ladies, but growing up with Stevie as basically mother and father has deepened that even more.
He's had quite a lot to get used to concerning Stevie in a very short time, what with the general '40s attitudes concerning women. Then, suddenly, his sister/BFF/mother figure being in the army with him, being a captain, and taller and stronger to boot. In order to somewhat deal with this, he's sort of mentally split Stevie and Captain America into two different people; whereas for canon!Bucky, they would obviously be the same. Granted, he'll happily follow both Stevie and Cap to hell and back, but he's grown a bit of a tougher skin for being so willing to go along with following a lady's orders.
- Events
-When Steve showed up in Italy and rescued him. It was confusing and somewhat shocking, yes, but it felt right somehow, him and Stevie fighting for their country together. It was definitely a bit ...unorthodox to have a lady for a C.O, but he figured he could get used to it well enough. He does love Stevie like a sister, but having her in charge of him does rankle a bit, mostly due to the surprise and suddenness of it all, and a vague feeling that he doesn't need to be baby-sat. But it doesn't mean that he wouldn't follow her to the end of the Earth, it would just take quite a lot of getting used to.
- His fall from the train in the Alps. It changed his life forever, and not exactly in a good way. There were some benefits - he survived, for one, and he met Natalia. He's still not sure if that makes up for being a terrifying assassin for most of the last seventy years, though. It also set into motion his becoming the Winter Soldier. In the movieverse, Bucky's fate is unknown; he is assumed to be killed by the fall from the train. Becoming the Winter Soldier changed him in a number of ways. He pretty much became a different person -- no memories of his past at all, just a soldier with uncommonly good reflexes. All the things he had an inherent talent for in the army were intensified and expanded upon, specifically his covert training and, well, killing people.
- Sample
The job was done. Senator Baxter had been dispatched with, and it was time for the Winter Soldier to go home. He'd done his duty.
The thing was, though, that home didn't exactly feel like home. It never really had, whenever he took the time to consider it. With training and missions and treatment, he rarely had time for anything else other than his work. This place? It felt familiar. The people around him, their voices sounded like something he'd heard long ago and far away, tucked somewhere in the back of his mind that he couldn't quite get at.
So why return to Russia? This felt right. It felt good. After all, he was the Winter Soldier. He could do what he liked, no one would dare tell him otherwise. So the young man did what he did best, he became a ghost. He vanished out of the grasp of his handlers, traveling -- first to Dallas, then Chicago, and finally New York, following the call of something he couldn't quite put his finger on. New York was good; he would have reflected if he remembered it at all, later. It was safe, it was familiar in that strange way that is like coming home after a long time away -- but the Russians made sure he wouldn't remember.
Back in Russia, any trace of familiarity was gone. He was no longer a vaguely confused young man, he was the Winter Soldier. If he remembered his journeys through America at all he gave no sign of it, but then, a good spy never gives up his secrets. He was just following orders, that was all, and got a bit sidetracked. It wouldn't happen again. After all, he was here to do his duty.
