Supernaturals
The Rifts can not only bring in people, objects, disasters from other worlds, but it can also affect the people who are living near them and near rift activity. It's why Chicago is filled with more humans that have been granted supernatural abilities by the Rifts than anywhere else in the world, because the Rift activity is higher there than anywhere else.
There are endless types of supernaturals. This page can only list the most common, but due to the nature of the Rift, there are new supernatural types created frequently because of the Rift and there are so many possibilities. If you have an idea for a supernatural human, you can run that idea by the mods, and it will more than likely be accepted if it isn't too overpowered or beyond what few limitations the Rift has.
The Rift doesn't create supernatural humans, however, that mirror either angel or demon abilities, because those abilities are exclusive to the angels and demons with the Callings. Other than that, there is unlimited potential and possibility for the abilities and types of supernatural humans that can be found.
Supernaturals can gain their powers at any time in their life either young or old, and they most likely know nothing about Rifts before they gain this power so the discovering of their power ends up with them being thrust into the supernatural world. As soon as they get their ability, the magic journal that connects them to the supernatural world will appear by their bedside.
Types
Elementals
Elementals are supernatural humans who have control over an element. While they cannot create this element out of nothing, they can manipulate and strengthen this element wherever they do find it. At first, these abilities are really difficult to control and to use like one would want to use them. It takes time and practice along with training. As with most powers in this universe, they can be triggered by strong and intense emotions, and they can be very difficult to get under control at times especially when the individual is feeling those strong emotions. Elementals can accidentally create a lot of damage without meaning to even or they could cause quite a bit on purpose. With training and focus, they can do more powerful, intense things with the element that they are in tune with, but the more they use the power, the more it will exhaust him.
The most frequently found elementals in this world are fire, water, earth, and wind elementals, but it does not stop there. There are many different potential types of elementals ranging from darkness elemental to plant elemental and more. Ask the mods if you have an idea for a specific type that is not listed here. There are some ideas listed at this page.
Vampires
In this world, vampires are one of the oldest types of supernatural-humans in the world. They can work and form allegiances with angels and demons when need be, because they also control smaller parts of the world where they are able to. Vampires are immortal, and they do not age. They can only be killed by beheading, a wooden stake to the heart, or being set on fire. The sun cannot kill them, but it can irritate their skin if they are stuck out in it for too long. They're colder than the average human, and they generally have some minor psychic ability as well as increased strength and speed. They survive on blood. If they don't get enough, they starve, and the effects are shown visibly in their skin.
Different types of blood affect the vampires differently, and this would be the case for wanderers who are vampires as well. Animal blood is the weakest, less satisfying, generally doesn't taste good. Human blood tastes much better, more powerful and more satisfying especially when fresh from the vein. However, there is also angel and demon blood in Chicago, and both can actually become nearly addicting for vampires if they manage to drink some. Both experiences can be very intoxicating. It also makes them stronger for as long as the blood is in their system, but it would be incredibly difficult to drink their blood due to how strong angels and demons are.
Vampires in this universe can be created by other vampires (through blood sharing and killing the individual), can be someone that has died in any way and for no matter how long (they wake and heal slowly from any decomposition). If a person dies as a baby, they can also become a vampire, but they will actually age to twenty one and then stop there (these are the most powerful types of vampires and incredibly rare).
Werewolves
Werewolves are either create by Rifts or one of their parents is a werewolf and they inherited it from them. The latter is rare to find in Chicago because most werewolf families are close, and they tend to have control over (smaller portions than vampires but) portions of the world. They are one of the oldest types of supernatural human, but it is only vampires and werewolves who have some type of control over small portions of the world. They are the only ones organized enough and able to make their own types to do so.
These werewolves in this world can vary greatly. All werewolves on an average day of the week and away from the full moon are essentially shapeshifters. If someone shifts into a wolf, they have to be a werewolf, because only shapeshifters who are werewolves can shift into wolves. They also will have a second animal form that they can shapeshift into along with the wolf. They fall prey to all of the issues shapeshifters have so be sure to read the shapeshifter section too.
During the full moon, werewolves are forced to shift into the werewolf version of themselves. They have little to no control over themselves in this form, and they are forced to be in this form all night until the sun comes out again. There are Supernatural Hotels in major cities that werewolves can buy rooms in to chain themselves up in during the night for a price, but it is a necessity. Without it, they will kill and hurt and create a path of destruction. They are generally stronger and faster than most even when not in their werewolf form. Werewolves created from heredity usually shift for the first time as teenagers and are stronger than Rift-created werewolves. They have more intense emotions at times, and those emotions can cause shifts into one of their animal forms, but most of them function in terms of having a pack even when they are a human.

Shapeshifters are people who have the ability to shift into an animal. They get two animal forms (one is generally smaller and the other is generally larger but there are no specifics) that they can shift into. The only animal that shapeshifters can absolutely not shift into is a wolf because that is for werewolves only. Other than that, as long as the animal is naturally occurring in the universe, it's fair game. Shifts are often caused by strong emotions, and the clothes do not shift with the person so frequently the animal will lose the clothes behind and end up shifting back naked somewhere. The older they are and the more experience, the more control they can have over their shifting.
While shapeshifters are, for the most part, in control of themselves while in their animal form, there are also animal instincts to contend with and that will affect their behavior to a certain extent. Some might find themselves enjoying being pet in their animal form. Others may find themselves more afraid and skittish. They could take on those predatory natures or play in those forms, like tuna or chase squirrels. Injuries gotten as an animal will remain when they shift back into being a human. The shifting experience is very painful, bones and skin has to stretch and stretch or collapse down, but again, the more times they shift, the less painful it gets.
There are dangers of shifting into an animal. The person could enjoy the simplicity of the animal brain and try to hide from human life there, but if a shapeshifter spends over two weeks in their form, they can stay stuck as an animal permanently, losing themselves and their control until they are only an animal. In fact, it often takes drastic measures at two weeks in order to remind the person that they are a person too like creating an emotional situation that will force a shift back.
Muses
Muses are individuals who can create inspiration in others. They are generally very creative individuals themselves in some ways. Creativity is not limited to only art types of ventures, but it can be expanded to inspiring luck, inspiring daring, inspiring courage or inventiveness in any field or for any reason. A muse could inspire someone to make a big purchase that they wouldn't without the inspiration to do so. There's rarely much control over the muse as to what a person does with their inspiration, and at a young age, many muses have a hard time controlling who it gets thrown at. Muses build up inspiration over time, and it can affect themselves as well as others especially if they don't push that inspiration out and on to others.
Sometimes this inspiration can be so powerful that it makes generally uncreative or not-artistic people break into song, lyric writing, or drawing. However, remember that inspiration does not equal talent. In the past, the inspiration they have been affected with latches on to whatever may be going on in their lives. If the inspiration has hit the individual hard enough, they may go into a bit of a frenzy trying to release it all in creative ways, which means they may forget to sleep, eat, or slow down in the process. Sometimes they will end up with hand cramps from writing, drawing, or building too much, and the muse itself can be affected in the same way by this buildup of emotion.
