Chicago, Beyond the Rift. City of the Big Shoulders. Once the third most populous city in the United States and the 26th most populous metropolitan area in the world, it sprawls over 234 square miles nestled against the shores of Lake Michigan.

It's been at war for three years.

In a world in which blurs the line between human, angel and demon, a Rift has opened up which threatens to split the fabric of reality apart. It tears people from their homes in other universes, pulling them in and changing them before it spits them back out in the Windy City. Once there, they have to contend with a world which doesn't recognize their existence, an ages-old hunt between Archangels and Rakshasa demons, the unstable political climate of a city falling apart, and Chicago's own tendency to destroy whatever – and whoever – it can get its hands on.

Beyond the Rift is a panfandom-and-original roleplaying game, emphasizing plot, character development, and storytelling while keeping a keen sense of the fun and absurd. Our logs range in size from the small and intimate to the epic and full-game, from the quiet moments to the great wars. The gameworld grows and changes in response to plot events and character development, and no one ever knows what the future will bring.

The world Beyond the Rift was never what you'd consider normal. While subspecies of humans styling themselves as Angels and Demons have maintained long bloodlines and even longer wars, the crack in the world known as the Rift has granted those among the native human population extraordinary powers: magic, shapeshifting, control over the elements, and in some cases a return to life after death. The wars between Angel, Demon, and Supernatural Human would change the world enough were it not for the fact that the Rift in recent years has opened wider, pulling in so-called Wanderers from other worlds and granting them powers, or stripping those powers away.

But all of this seethes beneath the surface. The mundane world doesn't know about this, and doesn't much want to: when it is brought to their attention, or when it becomes something they can't ignore, they react with violence. In this world the Wanderers, with no way home, have to make lives for themselves – or be killed by the conflict surrounding them.

Two years have passed since they've started arriving en masse, and they've begun to organize. They've begun to exert their place in the world. And the world has begun pushing back.
