Rules
General Rules
Applications, Activity, Etc.
- Be respectful of other players. It's a simple rule, but we expect you to treat others with common courtesy.
- Slash is very much allowed, as are threesomes/foursomes/how ever many folks you’d like. All we ask is that you mark all R/NC-17 logs or threads appropriately and place the logs behind a cut.
- Players are welcome and encouraged to create their own plots that other players can get involved with. However, if you plan on creating a plot that you know will affect other players' characters directly, you must contact them. Plots that would affect the entire game must be discussed with the mods first.
- Narration of all in-game posts and tags must use proper spelling and grammar - no chatspeak whatsoever, no emoticons. The game runs in a third person, present tense prose style. These rules don't apply to journal entries - characters are allowed to have bad grammar or spelling or draw in smileys or whatever. Posts and tags violating this rule will get a warning to change it if it's a long post or tag - if it's just a short paragraph, the tag/post will be deleted.
- All posts and tags must be at least a paragraph long (several sentences). One or two tags below this will not get you in trouble, but most tags should be consistently at or above this level. This is to ensure that there's enough for other characters to react to, and to ensure a standard of storytelling.
- No Godmoding. You may not write out someone else’s character doing or saying something, or have your character do something to someone else’s character, unless you have permission to do so. This obviously doesn’t apply to things like a character touching another as they chat, or the like, but anything drastic must have permission. When in doubt, talk to the other player.
- In-character actions lead to in-character consequences. While no one's allowed to kill someone else's characters for no good reason, if your character has backed themselves into a corner where serious injury or death is impossible to escape, do not expect the other players to bend their characterization to keep your character alive.
- Keep in mind that your characters cannot get money or things requiring money from nowhere, and wanderers especially have limited resources because they don't have any identification from this universe. This won't be strictly enforced, but if your characters consistently have things they shouldn't have been able to acquire, the mods will contact you about it. It is possible for them to get forged ID and a job when they get into the Rift, but be sure to make a note that they did that. Pets and pregnancies/babies require mod approval.
- If you have any problems with another player, a mod, or anything in the game, please, contact a mod. We would appreciate you coming forward, as long as it's in a respectful manner, and would want to do what we could to make the playing experience better for you.
Applications, Activity, Etc.
- You no longer have to wait between apps. Acceptance of applications will be based on player's activity with their current character load. Please, review your own activity before applying and only apply if you feel you can be active with another character.
- Characters from an animated or illustrated medium must have a photographic PB (live action). This is an aesthetic preference. We welcome characters from animated series, games, etc, but you need to find someone whose pictures you can use for icons. Exceptions can be made if there are physical characteristics that are not possible in a photographic PB, or if there is just no person out there who looks remotely like your character, but the exceptions will be made at the mods’ discretion. If you’re having trouble finding a PB, let us help out! Send the mods a couple images of the character and we’ll do our best to help you find someone.
- Please, LJ-tag your posts. We cannot stress this enough. We use LJ’s tagging system to keep track of activity and to look up older posts for modly reasons.
- Players are expected to keep characters active. Monthly activity checks are performed, and each character in your cast should have five tags in a thread with another character to pass. If they do not pass activity check, they will be removed from the game unless the player has real life issues going on and talk to the mods about it. When a character misses an AC, they receive a warning. After three warnings, they are removed from the game without warning.
- Anyone may send characters out of town with the intention of bringing them back in the future - just let the mods know and they will be moved to the “nonlocal characters” section. Nonlocal characters are still able to communicate with other characters on the journals, although they may not post or tag in the game. To bring a non-local character back into the game, simply fill out a shortened version of the application that lets the mods know what they’ve been doing, why they decided to return to Chicago, etc.
- Canon-puncture is dealt with by the players. If the mun of the character expresses a desire to not have their character canon-punctured, then that’s that. End of story. On the other hand, if they seem to be fine with it, then by all means, have at it!
- This last part isn’t a rule so much as it is a suggestion. If you are playing a character from a fandom and there are other characters from the same fandom already in play, it might be good to get together and talk to their muns OOC. As stated before, it’s certainly not a rule but might be nice for all who are involved.
- Any magics or supernatural powers that a wanderer has that are based in something in the wanderer’s home universe, rather than within the wanderer will not be allowed. For example, if any character from the Wheel of Magic series were to come into the Rift, they would not be able to use their magic, as the magic is not part of them, and is simply something they have the ability to tap into in their home universe. Conversely, any character from the Tortallan or Harry Potter universes would be able to retain their magic, as it comes from within them and exists within them. Things like “The Force” from Star Wars, which is basically a magic system that is just renamed to something not magic, are included in this rule.
